The Book of Nasty's...
a Huns saga...

Written by Brent "Captain Poot" Graef.... Club Historian and one good 'ol boy

Book I

1:1 - In the beginning was a fledgeling team of ruggers known as the Huns. And the Huns were a frivolous lot, skilled in all manner of debauchery.
1:2 - And this debauchery included (but was not limited to) drinking large quantities of beer, chasing (and sometimes catching) women ( some of them were even pretty), partaking of the hallowed spirits of the bar, and reaching out to new heights of understanding with the aid of natural herbs and poultices.
1:3 - And life was good.

2:1 - There were many among the Huns who were great leaders, and great warriors on the pitch. And those of the early days are now mostly forgotten, as their exploits have been topped by many of the newcomers.
2:2 - and they called their sacred home Nasty's.

3:1 - And the Huns came to Nasty's in all shapes and sizes, and also all variances of abilities.
3:2 - And there were among them some of the old, nearly forgotten names of Bill Jevroud, John Red-Horse, "Lumpy" March, and the infamous Dan Persico.
3:3 - And it came to pass, the new breed of Hun came upon the face of Nasty's.
3:4 - And there were among them a short Balding one known as Chad Walcott. And there was also a thin, fast one known as Andrew Fisher. And came a grey one from the north known far and wide for his debauchery, John Banks. And a young pup with a big nose and no speed known as Pelton. And there was among them a dirty player known as Elston... but he gave away a lot of beer. And there was among them two players who made Nasty's the great sanctuary it is today, Jack and Rick. And there were the Brothers Acuna, also Jay Rudd and Terry Adams. And a balding one known as Chandler. And two foreigners known as Suggy and Jonty. And there were many more, too numerous to mention at this time.

4:1 - And there were many victories both on and off the pitch.
4:2 - And the beer flowed freely.
4:3 - And the women were easy.

5:1 - And life was good, and the Huns prospered.

Book II

1:1 - And it came to pass that times changed
1:2 - and the Huns were slow to recognize the change in the land around them.
1:3 - And the games became increasingly difficult to win
1:4 - and the women became increasingly difficult to conquer.

2:1 - And there was an omen sent down from above, as the Huns travelled to the great desert known as Odessa to play the Maddogs.
2:2 - And the chariot the Huns were driving hit a deer.
2:3 - And the white powder of enlightenment blew out the window.
2:4 - And this was a sign of things to come.

3:1 - And the leaders of the Huns began to retire, and let all manner of distractions take precedence over their Huns Brethren.
3:2 - And some of the Huns allowed their jobs to take priority over their Brethren
3:3 - And some of the Huns allowed themselves to become ensnared by the evil traps of the softer flesh.
3:4 - And some of the Huns were married.

4:1 - And a great sorrow filled the land

5:1 - And the Huns began to dwindle in numbers until only a dedicated few were left.
5:2 - And their was a great sorrow which filled the Sanctuary of Nasty's.
5:3 - And many were the beers that were drank.
5:4 - And many were the stories that were told.
5:5 - And many were the co-ed that were lusted over.

6:1 - But there was still a great sorrow that filled the land.
6:2 - For the Huns were still dwindling in numbers
6:3 - And the treasury was empty
6:4 - And the debauchery was lessening
6:5 - And hearts were heavy

Book III

1:1 - And it came to pass, in the Homeland of the Huns, that the numbers of the Huns continued to dwindle.
1:2 - And the numbers at practice began to falter.
1:3 - And the practices were held at the intramural fields at UT
1:4 - And beer was not allowed.
1:5 - And the numbers at practice were often less than a score, nay, even less than ten.

2:1 - But the Sanctuary of Nasty's was still the Homeland.
2:2 - and the Huns came diligently to partake of the sacraments of beer, also of wine, and tequila, and schnaaps, and jagermeister
2:3 - And also all manner of various and sundry pleasures too numerous (or illegal) to mention here.

3:1 - And Nasty's was to salvage the Huns.

4:1 - And it came to pass that there came a change over the land.
4:2 - And there was also a change in the Huns.

5:1 - And it came to pass there was a great giant of a trombone player, with a massive square head who walked through the Hallowed Doors of the Sanctuary Nasty's.

7:2 - And he spake unto the Huns, saying, "Behold! I am "Poot"! I bring the skills of stealing balls at tournaments, and the phone crusade (for this was in the days before the internet) I offer my services unto you, and will join the Huns, my Brethren. Pour me a cold one!"
7:3 - And it was so.

8:1 - And it came to pass that an Elvis impersonator walked through the Hallowed doors of the Sanctuary Nasty's.
8:2 - And he could chug beer with the best of the Huns.
8:3 - And he slept with large women, yea verily, even larger than himself.
8:4 - And this was attributed to large quantities of beer consumed on a regular basis.
8:5 - And he spake unto the Huns, saying,"Behold! I am Carl! Doooowwp!"
8:6 - And he was welcomed into the Huns
8:7 - And his eyebrow was shaved
8:8 - And he became one with his Brethren.

1:2 - And the numbers among the Brethren of the Huns began to grow.

1:4 - and the beer was plentiful.

2:1 - And the Huns practices were moved from the Intramural
fields. And they could now bring beer, the substance of life, to practice.
2:2 - And the numbers of the Huns were growing.
2:3 - But the treasury was not.

3:1 - And the Caped-One spake unto his Huns Brethren, saying, "Behold, my Brethren! What is needed is a fundraiser! Let us raffle a microwave oven!"
3:2 - And the Hun with the Hot-Tub, Beadle, gave unto the Huns a microwave for that purpose.
3:3 - And the Trombone-Player spake unto the Huns, saying,"Behold, my Brethren! In order for this to really work, we must become involved with the community and give to a charity!"
3:4 - And Big Brothers/Big Sisters became the charity
3:5 - And over a thousand dollars was raised.

4:1 - And thus began the new era of the Huns.

5:1 - And it came to pass that the older of the Huns were not to be out-done by these newcomers.
5:2 - And the Brothers Acuna became responsible officers. And they helped coach. And they were respected among the Huns, for they bought a lot of beer.
5:3 - But they were still never on time. And this was good, for this is an old Huns tradition.

6:1 - And it came to pass that the Huns prospered greatly, inasmuch as the number of balls grew from three to well over twenty.
6:2 - And it came to pass that the treasury grew
6:3 - And the Huns became responsible members of the community
6:4 - And they adopted a stretch of highway
6:5 - And they bought team jerseys
6:6 - And they adopted new colors, even keeping the old (even though the stripes made Carl look fat, so be it)
6:7 - And the Huns prospered mighitly.

3:1 - But there was something needed in Nasty's; A new trophy case.
3:2 - and Jack built a fine trophy case to hang on the wall at Nasty's.
3:3 - And lo and behold, it became filled to overflowing. For the Huns were a dominant force in the TRU
3:4 - And Jack was loath to put another trophy case in, to accommodate the influx of trophies.
3:5 - And Zack drank many beers one evening, and verily I say unto you did his eyes become glazed. And he staggered around Nasty's with his Brethren, listening to the complaints about the Trophy Case.
3:6 - And yea, verily, did he drink another pitcher of beer, and he wiped his mouth and chin with the back of his hand. And he staggered across the room of Nasty's. And he lowered his big, square head.
3:7 - And verily did he head-butt the bar stools that were stacked by the bar, which gave him an idea.
3:8 - And verily did he stagger across the Hallowed room of Nasty's once again. And yea, did he let out a mighty roar. And he came charging across the astro-turf that covered the floors of Nasty's. And like an angry bull did he put his giant square head through the plexi-glass of the trophy case.

4:1 - And thus the new trophy case was built.

5:1 - And yea, the new trophy case must be filled, so the Huns redoubled their efforts to win.

8:1 - And it was good.

5:1 - And the Huns were mighty once more.

6:1 - And the traditions of the Huns were carried on by the younger generation of Huns.

7:1 - May you continue to carry on these Sacred Traditions, my Brethren. For inasmuch as some of the Elders of the Huns are semi-officially retired, and attatched or married... they are still Huns. ALWAYS.
7:2 - And they carry the Legends of the Huns in their bosoms.
7:3 - And from their seed will come many new Huns.
7:4 - And it is the duty of the youth to stand up for the traditions of the Huns, and carry them forth into the future. And keep the Huns mighty and strong.
